Alabama Health Libraries Association
2001 Annual Meeting

Reaching Across Boundaries:
Sharing Information and Ideas
March 14-16, 2001 Columbus, Georgia

Close on the heels of the ALHeLA/SC/MLA in October 2000, ALHeLA participated in another joint meeting, this time a joint annual meeting with the Georgia Health Sciences Library Association. This meeting was held March 14-16, 2001, in Columbus, GA, with meeting activities at the Columbus Hilton, Springer Opera House, Columbus Trade and Convention Center, and Columbus State University
Following the GHSLA model, the meeting began with a welcome reception Wednesday night at the historic Springer Opera House; many continued the evening by attending a performance of Arthur Kopit and Maury Yeston's "The Phantom".

Thursday began with separate business meetings followed by Jocelyn Rankin's Miriam Libbey Lecture. The afternoon offered a “Deskercise” session, and NLM and AHIP updates. The main afternoon event was a panel discussion on outreach services. Lee McCarley was the moderator; the panelists included Judy Burnham, Rosalind Lett, John Roy, Kay Hogan-Smith, and Rita Smith. The PowerPoint presentations for each presenter are available:

The banquet was Thursday evening and included entertainment by a local magician.

The conference concluded with morning CE sessions on Friday - Chandra Alston's “Bringing your Library's Resources to the Web" and Bryan Vogh's “SuperSearcher” classes.

We had 22 ALHeLA attendees at the conference, 15 of whom participated in a CE class. With the GHSLA attendance, we had a total of 58 registrants. Despite a few wrong turns and threatening weather, this, the 21st annual meeting of Alabama Health Libraries Association was deemed a success!

ALHeLA members on the 2001 Program Committee included: Marian Morris, Pat Higginbottom, Lisa Rains Russell, and Susan Williams.
