On the plains of Auburn, with the theme "In and Out of the Comfort Zone: Medical Libraries in Transition," Dr. Marion Paris, Associate Professor, University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies, challenged 33 ALHeLA members to reach beyond their comfort zone in their consumer health responsibilities.
Mary Fran Prottsman, Lyster U.S. Army Hospital, and Joan Lukins, Samford University, guided the breakout groups in focusing on consumer health scenarios experienced at the various types of libraries represented.
Jane Lambremont, Veterans Administration Medical Library, Alexandria, LA, and Eleanore Stewart, Head Conservator, Stanford University, helped bring us back to comfort with grants/extramural assistance and disaster planning/recovery workshops, respectively.
A plaque was given to President Judy Burnham in thanks for her wonderful leadership.
Participants had a lot of fun, too, including a walking tour of campus by Auburn University student leadership,Dr. Marion Paris and, a sunset barbecue at Chewacla State Park--with lots of good food, fellowship and door prizes.
